Pan European Recording was created 13 years ago by Arthur Peschaud. Since then, the music label has stood out thanks to its artistic choices, its passion and its radicalness.
As it is linked to the contemporary art world and to different alternative cultures, Pan European Recording didn’t find strength in a particular kind of music but in the unrestrained romantism of some artists making the sacrifice of their life for their art. The label’s work is a work on temporality, a work on being modern without being the modernity’s slave. Pan European Recording’s aim is to make some discs, to enable artists to create, and to leave its mark on history.
For his second release with Pan European Recording, Richard Fenet decided to share his creation intimacy through a musical sketch notebook, « Esquisses Musiques Vol.1 »
The demo stage, as a first outline on a blank page, is decisive. It lets us glimpse the art in the making. As he is a self-taught artist, Richard Fenet’s drafts are tinted with a charming naivety and an highlighted free spirit.
This first volume is a fascinating trip in his artistic genesis – a bucolic and enchanting world where french music tradition, electronic rhythms and oriental instruments meet. « Esquisses Musiques Vol.1 » is an atmospheric, dancing, joyful and melancholic record.
If the story behind the meeting between Buvette and Pan European Recording has been told multiple times – even sung about on «Together », the opening track of « 4EVER » , Buvette’s last album – the starting point of this musical adventure is this record « Palapa Lupita », released in 2012. Until this day it’s only been available in vinyl limited editions, for those who had the chance to meet Buvette at a show. It is unusual for a first self-produced album, mainly recorded in Mexico, far from the Swiss mountains – Buvette’s motherland – to have such a consistence, to be this complete. We can hear all the dawning maturity and the alchemy of Buvette’s magical music. We are particularly glad to share this record with all of you, as it is a missing link in Buvette’s fascinating discography.
Recorded and mixed by Benjamin Bard in Leysin, mastering by Dan Suter at echochamber, artwork by Adrian Rast.
